If products in the webshop are presented all as individual products, the variant info tab, will not come into use.
However if products wishes to be presented in the webshop as variants under a parent product, this tab comes into use (e.g. 1 shirt, in 5 colors, each color in 10 sizes).
Variants under a parent, can either be one-sided or two sided. Either way the parent will be related to 1 or 2 variant groups, and the children to 1 or 2 variant dimensions under each group.
Before setting up a parent with children, these groups and dimensions should be in place. To learn more in this topic, please check below page links:
Lookup listsLookup list itemsIf only one dimension (e.g. color) differs one child from the other, and there is no need to show a second dimension (e.g. size) a one-sided variant will do.
Choose the "Is parent" configuration, and the relevant variant-group-1. Add the children by typing the product IDs in "Find product", or search by name. Pick the relevant variant-dimension-1 per child product. Choose Channel and category.
On the child products relate product image and choose channel. Only add category if the child products should also appear individually on the product list in webshop, as well as under a parent product.
Only parent appearing on product list.
The child images function both as main image when a variant is chosen, and as thumbnail in the variant listing on the detail page:
If two dimensions a needed to differ between child products (e.g. yellow and red color - both sold in sizes small, medium and large) then create 2-sided variants.
Choose the "Is parent" configuration, and relevant variant-group-1 and 2. Add the children by typing the product IDs in "Find product" or search by name. Pick the relevant variant-dimension-1 and 2 per child product. Choose channel and category.
If the child items should have thumbnail images in the webshop, add images per variant-dimension-1's, as shown below.
Note that products with same variant-dimension-1 will share same image.
It is optional if the child product should have image. If a dimension image is added on the parent as described above, that will be both the main image for the variant as well as the thumbnail.
If an image is added here to the child detail page, it will be the main image showing for that child.
Parent is presented in the product list. When clicking "Show variants" this is how the variants are presented. See further down on this page alternatives on how variants can be presented.
On the parent product detail, tab Variants, the childitems are sorted by dimensions in the following sequence:
Dimension 1 is sorted by sortorder then dimension 2 by sortorder. If no sortorders exist or sortorder is identical on all variants then sorting is done first alphabetically by code on dimension 1 and then by dimension to. Last by itemnumber
If the Parent product is priced, this price will show on the product list. If the parent is not priced, it will display the price of the first variant. From Chainbox versions higher than 5.2.18, discount or bulk discount hitting that variant is also taken into account when presenting the first variant price on the product list.
Note: if parent is priced with 0 DKK, that is also a price, and 0 DKK will show on the list.
Note that individual specifications on variants can not be displayed individually in the webshop without development. Instead individual data is accumulated into one matrix.
Only descriptions on the parent item will be visible in the webshop.
Variant display configurations is set overall but can be overruled on parent level.
Below are examples of alternative setting-options relevant for 2-sided variants.
